Handheld PCs Are Too Expensive Now
Portable PC gaming is booming, but premium handheld prices and component shortages are pushing players to think harder about value.
The short version
Handheld PCs are sick, but the top models are moving into luxury territory. For a lot of retro players, that is overkill. You do not need a premium portable PC to play Pac-Man, Galaga, NES homebrew or Game Boy releases.
What changed
Better chips, more RAM, bigger screens and storage shortages are pushing prices up. The result is simple: portable PC gaming is more powerful, but less casual.
What to do
Use the web for discovery and a local emulator for clean play. Save favorites, build a list and only buy hardware when you know what you actually play.
